Our Superhero & The EEG

Sterling had an EEG a couple weeks back.  He was a real trooper and I was proud of his courage and cooperation in an environment that brings him anxiety and a sense of panic.

We had a neurologist appointment, earlier in the week and what I had anticipated to be an appointment with the doctor saying, nothing to worry about turned out to be the opposite.  The doctor said given Sterling's medical condition, a cranial-facial condition (cleft lip/cleft palet/microtia) places him at a higher risk for neurological conditions.  She confirmed the episode that happened a while back, was in fact a seizure and all the small staring spells, where Sterling doesn't hear us and has a glazed look and must be shaken to come out of it, could possibly be small seizures, as oppose to the "institutional behavior" we accounted it to.

The doctor ordered an EEG, MRI and Genetic Testing.  The genetic test results will take 8 weeks.  Our next appointment is in October but we should have EEG results this week.  I'll be calling to inquire as soon as Tuesday afternoon, rolls around. The MRI is scheduled for the beginning of August.

Texas Children's Hospital has a service, "Child Life Specialists" who are available to help reduce fear in children when they have tests.  These individuals are GREAT!  We had someone helping Sterling the day of the lab work and another lady came before and during his prep work for the EEG.  They are worth their weight in gold!  I was at the hospital by myself with Sterling and having them to help him understand the test and play games with him was a treasure!

Starting out at the gift shop

At the coffee shop with mama.  This is my quiet, withdrawn look..ie: scared

Sterling is a real trooper, while the technician places the elctrodes...thank goodness for Child Life Services, who allowed Sterling to play a pre-school game with her iphone.

More electrodes and Sterling continues to show his courage
Please join us in prayer, as we pray for Sterling's test results.

Faith, Love & Happiness
